When Dennis Pettet of Collectables Records discovered Harbor Lights on the internet he said that he could not believe the group was from Indiana.
“This style of music was born on the rough and tough street corners of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Who could ever imagine that a group from Indiana could deliver a street corner Doo Wop sound that rivals some of the best vocal groups from the East Coast” Pettet said.
With these words of encouragement Harbor Lights went to work in the Studio and recorded their first album, ”Almost Acappella”. It is a collection of ten classic hits from the late fifties and early sixties.
Upon hearing the tracks Collectables immediately signed Harbor Lights to a five year deal.
With the exception of three selections that contain a very slight amount of acoustic guitar the album is performed acappella. Thus, the name, Almost Acappella.
Unlike most vocal groups, every member in the group sings leads. This changes the flavor of every selection and the sound never becomes redundant. The album remains fresh from start to finish.
The Harmonies are rich and pure, the arrangements are authentic and to this day “Almost Acappella” is one of Harbor Light’s best sellers.
