I grew up in Hammond Indiana.
I attended Hammond Tech high School from 1957 - 1961. During
this time I sang in the school choir, and with various high school
doo wop groups.
In the beginning as a group
harmony lover, I stayed close to all the popular vocal groups
in the school waiting for my chance to join. I was an average
student and athlete, but my real passion was music. There was
nothing that I wanted more than to get into one of those great
sounding doo wop groups.
Hoping and waiting, that day finally came! I was invited to audition
in a friend's group, when a current member needed to be replaced.
After a nerve racking day, thinking about that big break audition,
I went and boldly made myself heard. For the audition, I made
sure that I knew all the songs that I would need to know to be
chosen - And I was!
I went from being an average
student and athlete to "He's one of the guys from that group."
I was in my glory!!
Singing has taken me from high
school to The White House, to the 1996 Summer Olympics, to the
stage of the Radio City Music Hall.
The vocal groups that made
the biggest impression on me were The Flamingos, with their intricate
arrangements and harmonies, and the distinctive sound of the
Skyliners.
Because of the different flavors
that our current line up in Harbor Lights offers, we now have
the opportunity to sing all of the various stylings that groups
like Dion & The Belmonts, and Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers
used to sing in those glorious early days of doo wop, and frankly,
no other group does it like Harbor Lights! We all just love to
sing, and each one of us becomes part of the magic. We are a
family.
